UPME frees 6.3 GW of grid capacity as FNCER tops 5.29 GW installed

UPME recovered 6.3 GW of transmission capacity — mostly solar and wind — while Colombia's FNCER dashboard shows more than 5.29 GW of non-conventional renewables.

Colombia’s Mining and Energy Planning Unit (UPME) reported freeing 6.3 GW of capacity on the national grid — the largest recovery of network space on record — to unlock clean-energy and storage projects.

Recovered capacity is mostly solar (4,016.4 MW, 62.8%) and wind (1,815.6 MW, 28.4%). Allocation processes are expected within 12 months, with storage included.

FNCER dashboard

UPME’s FNCER tracker shows about 5.29 GW of total installed non-conventional capacity. Hydropower, solar and wind together account for roughly 74% of reported clean installed capacity on the SIN.

Business angle

More available transfer capacity removes a financing bottleneck for solar and wind parks. Developers with real progress, permits and energy obligations are set to be prioritized.
